Trip by road to Sydney in December. We travelled in a blue Morris Oxford sedan towing a wooden trailer that Dad had bought for the trip. It was set up as a sort of camper trailer. At night, Mum & Dad slept in the trailer and Peter, Maxine and I slept in the car .... which had been converted so that the front seat folded flat to make a bed.
We set out from Wundowie for the big trip .... but within 15 minutes the car went over a large rock in the road (Inkpen Road) and it put a hole in the sump of the engine! We turned back and had to wait at the garage in Wundowie while the sump was removed and the hole brazed .... this was probably my first experience of the wonders of metalwork! I can still recall my awe.
Donkey at the border
It must have been the second or third night .... we camped at the border .... there was a donkey .... it must have been used to people because it ate Mum's scarf!
